advertisement as a m eans communication

An advertisement is a paid for communication to promote the sale of a product or service. One could write a book on Advertising as a means of communication but to keep it short, I will try to say it in a few lines.

Advertisements are nothing but information about a product or service , put together in a visually attractive way and explaining why that particular product or service is most suited for the customer. As it helps the customer make an informed choice from various options available to him, it is an important means of communication. It reaches the product message to the customer(s) cost effectively, creatively and in a concise manner.

In any communication model, there are the following basic elements:

Sender
Receiver(s)
Medium
Message
and
a common socio cultural and economic universe where all the above are in operation. The advertisement therefore serves the role of the message in the communication model.
